“ Sink, or Survive”

Deep Water is a breathtaking survival book about a 12-year-old girl, Julie. She is visiting her dad for the summer when he falls sick. Unfortunately, there is a big client for her dad who wants to go scuba diving. Luckily, Julie is experienced enough to take them 105 feet under the shores of Alabama. Julie takes Mr. Jordan and his son, and Julie’s mortal enemy, Shane underwater. But once they are underwater, a big problem occurs. The anchor isn’t on tight enough, which means that Julie, Shane, and Mr. Jordan have to get up immediately. But Julie can’t find Mr. Jordan and Shane so she decides to go up by herself. Even though she tries to get there as fast as possible, the boat and her dad are gone. And to make matters worse, there is a huge thunderstorm and she has no way out of the water. Eventually, she finds Mr. Jordan and Shane. But, they face tons of more dangers as they try to survive the vicious waters.

This book is one of the best I’ll read in my lifetime. There are so many twists that the author, Watt Key, adds to the story. I love the theme, which is survival, friends, and adventures. Taking place in the Gulf of Florida and Alabama, the setting paints a vivid picture. I love this book because you are always engaged because of the unexpected twists. The book is perfect for 5th graders- 8th graders. After reading Deep Water, I can’t wait to get my hands on another book by Watt Key.
